Wealth Mindset Understands That You Get MORE Than You Give (With the Proper Intention)

There’s a quiet misunderstanding that keeps people stuck on their wealth journey: the belief that giving and receiving must be equal, immediate, and visible.

“If I give to you, you should give back to me.”

That’s not generosity. That’s a transaction.

That’s business.

And while business has its place, it is not the foundation of a true wealth mindset.

Giving vs. Exchanging

We give money to receive goods.
We give time to receive services.
We give effort to receive compensation.

That is an exchange of equal value.

But giving—real giving—is something entirely different.

Giving is when you offer something of value without attaching a return to a specific person, outcome, or timeline.

It’s not:

  • “I did this for you, so you owe me.”

  • “I supported you, so you should support me.”

That mindset limits your return.

Because now your expectation is tied to one person… instead of being open to the abundance of many sources.

The Principle of Reciprocity—Done Right

As described in The Power of Reciprocity, the idea of “you get what you give” goes deeper than simple cause and effect.

It’s not a one-to-one exchange.

It’s an energy.

A pattern.

A chain reaction.

When you consistently give:

  • kindness

  • effort

  • support

  • integrity

You are planting seeds.

But here’s the part most people miss:

Those seeds rarely grow in the same place you planted them.

Why People Miss Their Blessings

Many people feel like giving “doesn’t work.”

But the truth is—they’re looking in the wrong direction.

They’re watching the person they gave to…
instead of watching their life.

They expect:

  • appreciation from that person

  • loyalty from that person

  • opportunity from that person

So when it doesn’t come, they feel overlooked.

But the return doesn’t always come from people.

Sometimes it comes as:

  • a new opportunity

  • unexpected financial relief

  • peace of mind

  • a connection you didn’t plan for

  • growth you didn’t realize you needed

If your vision is too narrow, you’ll miss the return completely.

Intention Is Everything

A wealth mindset starts with intention.

From an Islamic perspective, intention (niyyah) is the foundation of every action.

Giving for recognition…
Giving for praise…
Giving for validation…

These are not pure intentions.

Islam teaches that acts of kindness, charity, and worship should be done for the sake of Allah—not for people.

Because people are limited But Allah t’ala is not.

When your intention is aligned correctly:

  • you are not disappointed by people

  • you are not discouraged by lack of acknowledgment

  • you are not emotionally dependent on outcomes

You give because it is who you are.

And that is where the barakah (blessing) begins.

My Personal Shift: From Anger to Awareness

There was a time in my life when I couldn’t see kindness… even when I was surrounded by it.

I was angry. Angry at my father. And that anger created a filter.

Through that filter, I missed the men who were showing up for me.

I took their presence for granted.

Their support went unnoticed.

Their kindness went unappreciated.

It wasn’t until I embraced Islam and committed to prayer that I began to see clearly.

Prayer didn’t just connect me spiritually—it made me self-aware.

It forced me to confront something deeper:

The wounded inner child that was still seeking what it never received.

The Healing Process Is Part of the Wealth Journey

Let’s be honest.

Healing is not easy.

It’s not quick.
It’s not painless.
And it doesn’t come with guarantees.

I had to:

  • confront my emotions

  • sit with discomfort

  • give effort daily

  • grow through years of internal work

And for a long time… I didn’t see the result I thought I wanted.

I thought success would look like:

  • repaired relationships

  • external validation

  • visible outcomes

But the real success?

Peace.

Peace within myself.

And that peace unlocked something powerful:

The ability to give freely.

The True Return on Giving

When you give with the proper intention:

You gain:

  • emotional freedom

  • spiritual clarity

  • stronger character

  • deeper relationships

  • inner peace

These are forms of wealth that money alone cannot buy.

And ironically…

They often lead to financial opportunities anyway.

The Simplicity of Giving

Giving doesn’t always look like money.

Sometimes it’s:

  • a smile

  • a “hello”

  • a sincere “thank you”

  • patience

  • understanding

  • encouragement

But if your heart is heavy with anger, resentment, or entitlement…

Even the simplest acts will feel difficult.

The Formula for True Giving

Giving has two parts:

1. The Intention
Do it for the right reason—without expectation from people.

2. The Action
Follow through consistently, even when no one is watching.

When both align…

The impact multiplies.

The chain reaction strengthens.

And the return becomes greater than anything you could have planned.

Final Thought: Give… and Also Receive Within Yourself

While you are giving to others…

Don’t forget to give to yourself too.

Give yourself:

  • grace

  • healing

  • time

  • reflection

Because sometimes, the part that needs the most kindness…

Is you.

A wealth mindset understands this truth:

You don’t get more because you demand it.
You get more because you become someone who gives—correctly, consistently, and sincerely.

And when you do…

The return will find you.

In ways you never expected.
